The New Year is here and many people have lists ready to make the most of 2016. But, do resolutions really make a difference in the lives of entrepreneurs?
The answer? Absolutely!
A lot of people won’t stick to their resolutions, but there will be those handful that will and the goals they set in January—and stick to for 12 months straight—will make a lasting difference in the life of their business. Goals create momentum within your company and can take a small business into it's next successful phase.
Here are a few tips we’ve found handy in creating resolutions that will last past the first 20 days on 2016.
Write Your Goals Down
There’s something to be said for writing your goals down. When you can tangibly hold a piece of paper (or smart phone) and read the goals you’ve set, it creates a reality within you that the goal is truly something you want to accomplish.
Figure out the practical steps you need to take in order to attain the goals. Create a schedule, expectations, processes etc. so that you can make the most of your time and energy. Being an entrepreneur means that time is money so take advantage of each moment you have to intentionally work towards your set goals.
Know your WHY
What made you excited December 31st may seem a little fuzzy by the time that August or September rolls around. Establish why you’ve set each goal so that you can go back and refresh and motivate yourself.
Just because you work for yourself doesn’t mean that it’s always lonely. Find accountability with people who think like you so that you can encourage each other throughout the year.
Set milestones and celebrate when you accomplish a goal. Knowing what motivates you and compensating yourself with it will keep you focused on what needs to be done with each goal.
What goals did you set for 2016? Are they realistic? Consider mapping out a plan as you start January so that you can have structure and focus as you pursue big things during the year. We’d love to hear about different ways you work towards goals. Comment below with your ideas!
